Dropping price won’t overcome bad reviews

SAS and The Pennsylvania State University published a new research called “Pricing in a social world: The influence of non-price information on hotel choice.” They present some interesting findings, but the bottomline is that reviews trump price as the decisive factor in consumer choice. In fact, negative reviews will eliminate a hotel from consideration, regardless of price.

Hoteliers are spending longer responding to online reviews, says Choice Hotels Europe in their third annual “European Hotelier Pulse-check“. It found that 63% of the European hoteliers estimated they spent between 1-3 hours every week reading and responding to online reviews about their hotels.
